Maria Muscarella Maria graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill in 1997 with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing, and began her professional career as a Labor & Delivery Nurse after spending some time studying Midwifery in Ireland. After spending most of her childhood climbing trees and playing out in the woods, she felt stifled in the hospital setting and wanted to cultivate more of a connection with the earth and the cycles of the seasons. Maria found this outlet through the plants, and in 1999 began her formal study of herbs at the North Carolina School of Natural Healing, under Peggy Ellis. During this same year, she left the hospital and began working as a nurse and herbalist for a holistic doctors office. Maria heard many client frustrations about the health care products available to them, and started formulating herbal products for some of the more common client complaints. From this, Full Circle Herbs Company was born and Maria continued hand crafting medicinal herbal products for the next 7 years while pursuing her herbal studies. After graduating from her Clinical Herbalist internship, Maria began teaching for the Mountain Spirit School of Herbalism, and in 2006, decided to sell Full Circle Herbs in order to concentrate on her teaching and clinical practice. These past few years have been a time of amazing transformation for Maria. Herbalism has become a vital part of her life. It is not a job, it is a passion, and she hopes that her dedication to the plants can help others feel passionate about their lives and health as well. Along with her husband, children, and animals, Maria lives on 25 acres just outside of Asheville. They recently finished building their home, with their own hands. Their hope is to live as lightly as possible on the land and to build a small sustainable community. Maria sees her clients in a cabin on her land.
